The objective of this seminar is to instruct participants in the proper level of force that can be used to defend themselves in a wide variety of violent encounters. These established legal principles give civilians the right to apply force to the person of another, to engage in violence for the sole purpose of defending one's own life or the life of a third party from physical harm, serious or great bodily injury, and/or even death. We will cover:

Violence in Our Communities: Best Strategies to Survive an Active Shooter Scenario
With Darren Levine
Saturday, 2:15pm - 3:30pm

An Active Shooter is an individual actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a confined and populated area; in most cases, active shooters use firearms(s) and there may or may not be a pattern or method to their selection of victims.

Active shooter situations are unpredictable and evolve quickly. Typically, law enforcement is required to stop the shooting and mitigate harm to victims. However, active shooter situations are often over within 10 to 15 minutes, BEFORE law enforcement arrives on the scene. Therefore, INDIVIDUALS MUST BE PREPARED both mentally and physically to deal with an active shooter situation.

The "ACTIVE SHOOTER" powerpoint lecture addresses all available options for you to survive an active shooter incident from tactical, operational and psychological perspectives.

YOU WILL LEARN INVALUABLE TIPS, TACTICS AND TECHNIQUES to pass on to your students. This course is designed to help you add a new dimension to your self-defense classes and your students will see the value in learning these techniques.

Gracie Jiu Jitsu Street Self-defense System
With Steve Maxwell
Sunday, 8:30am - 9:45am

The original Gracie system of street defense is far different from MMA, the sport. The modern version of Brazilian jiu-jitsu as a competitive sport has become very stylized and score-oriented; this means it's lost most of its potency as a practical system of street self-defense. This class is an introduction to the original Gracie self-defense program.

The Gracie self-defense technique is singular in its compendium of techniques on a wide scale from the benign neutralizing of aggression...to all-out deadly force. It is this adaptability that makes Gracie original self-defense techniques as ideal for bully-proofing children as it is for higher stakes, martial applications.

Because of its unparalleled focus on escape and non-aggressive response, the Gracie system of street self-defense is especially practical--and potentially life-saving--for women. The objective is not beating someone up--as in a Hollywood movie--but a far more realistic, pragmatic aim, like survival, or simply neutralizing a bigger, stronger attacker. Have no doubt: when facing a bigger, stronger attacker, the likelihood of a fight going to the ground is assured and this is where the Gracie system excels.

Come and join Steve Maxwell, fifth-degree black belt professor under Relson Gracie, for a dynamic, authoritative, hands-on clinic in this fantastic martial art.

From the Ground Up™
With Ryan Hoover
Sunday, 1:00pm - 2:15pm

From The Ground Up™ is a three-tiered program that bridges the gap between being told it is imperative "to get back up" and how to actually accomplish that in real time. From The Ground Up™ uses the best of wrestling and Brazilian jiu-jitsu, with an emphasis on re-prioritizing the "goals" for ground fighting, as opposed to the goals for protracted grappling. Essentially, From The Ground Up™ is the absent modality for practitioners that do not want a sport based grappling program, while recognizing "the need to get wet, in order to not drown."

This class is great for owners who want to teach students a mix of basic krav maga, jiu jitsu and a few other disciplines that combine to accomplish one goal: how to fight to get upright when your opponent or attacker has you on the ground. The techniques you learn can be easily built into your existing classes or can be used as a standalone course for students. From The Ground Up™ will add a new dimension to your fighting and self-defense programs!
